Sphyrospermum buxifolium

A rarely cultivated cloud forest shrub from the Andean forests of South America, Sphyrospermum buxifolium thrives in cool, humid conditions beneath the forest canopy. Its small, leathery leaves and delicate growth make it well suited to naturalistic terrariums and cloud forest displays.

In time, it produces beautiful, waxy, urn-shaped flowers followed by colourful berries that provide food for birds in its native habitat. Like many cloud forest plants, it has evolved in close relationship with mist, mosses, fungi and the surrounding ecosystem.

At The Cloudscaper, we see Sphyrospermum as a quiet reminder that resilience doesn’t always announce itself. Some of nature’s greatest beauty unfolds slowly, asking only for patience, consistency, and the right conditions to thrive.
