Sarcochilus hartmannii

A beautiful compact Australian species, Sarcochilus hartmannii is a tough little epiphytic orchid that produces sprays of crisp white flowers, often beautifully marked with yellow and red towards the centre.

Its naturally compact growth and fleshy roots make it particularly well suited to mounted culture, where the roots can receive plenty of fresh air and dry naturally between waterings. As plants mature they can form attractive clumps and produce an impressive number of flowers for their size.

Care

Light: Bright, filtered light. Avoid strong midday summer sun, but give it enough light to encourage good flowering.

Temperature: Cool to intermediate growing. Around 10–25°C suits it well. It appreciates cooler nights and is considerably more tolerant of cool conditions than many tropical orchids.

Water: Water regularly during active growth, allowing the roots to become lightly dry between waterings. Reduce slightly through the cooler months and avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.

Humidity & Airflow: Moderate to high humidity with excellent airflow. Mounted plants particularly enjoy fresh air moving around their exposed roots.

Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a balanced orchid fertiliser. Little and often works well.

Flowering: Usually flowers in spring, producing clusters of long-lasting, predominantly white blooms.

🌿 A compact, cool-growing Australian species with beautiful white flowers hardy, characterful and perfect for a naturally grown orchid collection.
