Rhyncholaelia digbyana
Established on natural wood
A striking epiphytic orchid, Rhyncholaelia digbyana is known for its large, beautifully fringed green flowers and wonderful evening fragrance.
This specimen is well established on natural wood with a strong, healthy root system, with roots naturally gripping and growing across the mount. It has been given time to settle rather than being freshly mounted for sale.
The thick, leathery foliage gives the plant plenty of character even when not in flower. When mature, the flowers are extraordinary — pale green with an intricately fringed lip and a rich fragrance that becomes particularly noticeable after dark.
Care
Light: Bright filtered light. This species appreciates more light than many orchids, but protect from harsh midday sun.
Temperature: Warm to intermediate. Ideally around 18–28°C during active growth, with slightly cooler nights.
Water: Water thoroughly during active growth, allowing the mount and roots to approach dryness between waterings. Mounted plants will naturally dry faster than potted orchids.
Humidity: Around 60–80% with good air movement.
Winter: Reduce watering as growth slows, but avoid leaving the plant completely dry for prolonged periods.
Airflow: Good air movement is important, particularly when grown in higher humidity.
A beautiful species for a warm greenhouse, orchid collection or naturalistic mounted display.
