Laelia anceps Established on Natural Wood

A beautiful established Laelia anceps, grown naturally onto wood with a strong, healthy root system gripping the mount.

This is an orchid that really suits being grown this way. The exposed roots receive plenty of airflow and are able to dry naturally between waterings, much like they would growing as an epiphyte in the wild.

Laelia anceps is a tough, rewarding species with elegant upright flower spikes that can carry beautiful pink to lavender flowers, usually with a deeper coloured lip. Given plenty of light and good seasonal care, mature plants can put on an impressive display.

Each mounted plant has its own natural character the wood, growth and root structure are all part of the piece.

Care

Light:

Bright light with some gentle direct sun. Laelia anceps enjoys considerably more light than many tropical orchids. Good light is important for strong growth and flowering.

Temperature:

Intermediate to cool-intermediate. Around 12–26°C is a good general range. Established plants can tolerate cooler nights, particularly during the drier winter period, provided they aren’t kept cold and wet.

Water:

Water thoroughly during active growth, allowing the roots and mount to dry between waterings. Mounted plants naturally dry faster than orchids grown in pots, so check regularly during warm weather.

Winter:

Once the new growth has matured, reduce watering and allow a noticeably drier winter period. Don’t keep the roots constantly wet during cooler conditions.

Humidity & Airflow:

Enjoys moderate to high humidity alongside good air movement. Fresh airflow around the exposed roots is especially beneficial.

Feeding:

Feed lightly during active growth with a balanced orchid fertiliser. Reduce feeding as growth slows towards winter.

Mounting:

Already established onto natural wood. Avoid disturbing healthy attached roots unnecessarily once Laelia roots have gripped their mount, they’re best allowed to continue growing naturally.
