Jumellea confusa
A beautiful and elegant Jumellea species from Madagascar, Jumellea confusa has a wonderfully natural epiphytic growth habit, with leathery green leaves and thick aerial roots that enjoy plenty of air around them.
The flowers are pure white, waxy and star-shaped, with the long nectar spur characteristic of Jumellea. Their clean, simple form gives the plant an understated beauty, and the flowers can also be fragrant, particularly towards the evening and at night.
It is a lovely orchid for naturalistic growing, especially where its roots are allowed to develop freely.
Care
Light: Bright filtered light. Give plenty of light without harsh midday sun.
Temperature: Intermediate growing. Around 15–26°C is a good general range, with cooler nights beneficial.
Water: Water thoroughly during active growth, allowing the roots to become lightly dry between waterings. Avoid keeping the root zone permanently wet.
Humidity & Airflow: Appreciates high humidity with excellent airflow. Around 70–85% humidity works particularly well when there is constant gentle air movement.
Feeding: Feed lightly and regularly during active growth using a dilute balanced orchid fertiliser.
Winter: Reduce watering slightly as temperatures and growth slow, but don’t give the plant a hard dry rest.
Growing: Particularly attractive grown mounted or in a very open, airy medium, where its aerial roots can develop naturally.
🌿 An elegant Madagascan orchid with beautifully simple white, star-shaped flowers and a delicate evening fragrance — understated, wild and beautifully botanical.
