Hoya engleriana

A beautiful and distinctive small-leaved Hoya, Hoya engleriana has a wonderfully fine, trailing growth habit quite different from the larger-leaved Hoyas commonly seen in cultivation.

The long, slender stems are lined with tiny narrow green leaves, gradually forming a dense cascading plant as it matures. Its delicate foliage gives it an almost wild, fern-like appearance and makes it particularly attractive grown in a hanging pot or basket, where the stems can fall naturally.

When mature, it produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers, typically soft pink with a contrasting deeper centre. The flowers may be small, but against the fine foliage they make a beautiful display.

Care

Light: Bright filtered light. Some gentle morning or late-afternoon sun can be beneficial, but avoid harsh midday sun.

Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. Around 16–27°C is a good range. Protect from prolonged temperatures below approximately 12°C.

Water: Water thoroughly and then allow the growing medium to partially dry before watering again. Avoid keeping the roots permanently wet.

Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, particularly when grown in a warm environment.

Airflow: Good gentle airflow helps keep the fine trailing growth healthy, particularly under humid conditions.

Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a dilute balanced fertiliser.

Growing: Particularly beautiful in a hanging pot or basket, where its long stems can cascade freely. Avoid repeatedly cutting the old flower spurs, as Hoyas can flower again from the same peduncles.

🌿 A delicate, small-leaved Hoya with masses of fine cascading growth — unusual, botanical and particularly beautiful as a mature hanging specimen.
