Cattleya labiata v caerulea
£25.00
Cattleya labiata var. coerulea
A beautiful blue-toned form of the classic Cattleya labiata, one of Brazil’s iconic Cattleya species.
The coerulea form is particularly sought after for its cooler colouring, producing large, elegant flowers in soft lavender to blue-violet tones with a deeper contrasting lip. Mature plants can produce wonderfully fragrant flowers with the unmistakable presence of a classic Cattleya.
A strong-growing epiphytic orchid with substantial pseudobulbs and leathery leaves, developing thick aerial roots that appreciate plenty of air around them.
Care
Light:
Bright filtered light. A little gentle direct morning or late-afternoon sun is beneficial, but protect from strong midday summer sun.
Temperature:
Intermediate to warm growing. Around 16–28°C is ideal, with slightly cooler nights.
Water:
Water thoroughly during active growth, then allow the roots to approach dryness before watering again. Avoid keeping the root zone constantly wet.
Humidity & Airflow:
Moderate to high humidity with plenty of fresh air movement. Good airflow around the roots is particularly important.
Winter:
Reduce watering as growth matures and conditions become cooler and darker. Keep the plant slightly drier, but don’t allow the pseudobulbs to become heavily shrivelled.
Feeding:
Feed lightly and regularly during active growth with a balanced orchid fertiliser. Reduce feeding as growth slows.
🌿 A beautiful collector’s Cattleya with an unusual cooler-toned flower and classic Cattleya fragrance.
