Bulbophyllum laxiflorum

An unusual and characterful Bulbophyllum species, Bulbophyllum laxiflorum has the wonderfully creeping growth habit typical of the genus, producing small pseudobulbs along a travelling rhizome.

The flowers are delicate and intricate, carried in loose clusters and displaying the wonderfully unusual structure that makes Bulbophyllum so fascinating. It is a species best appreciated up close, where the detail and complexity of each bloom can really be seen.

Its creeping habit makes it particularly suited to mounting on natural wood or cork, allowing the rhizome to travel freely and the roots to grow naturally across the surface.

Care

Light: Bright filtered to medium light. Avoid harsh direct midday sun.

Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. Aim for around 16–28°C, with a gentle drop at night.

Water: Keep regularly watered during active growth. Unlike many Cattleyas, Bulbophyllums generally prefer not to become completely dry for extended periods.

Humidity & Airflow: Appreciates high humidity with constant gentle airflow. Around 70–90% humidity works particularly well for mounted plants, provided air movement is good.

Feeding: Feed lightly and regularly during active growth with a dilute balanced orchid fertiliser.

Mounting: Excellent for natural wood or cork. Allow the rhizome space to travel rather than trying to contain the plant too tightly.

🌿 A fascinating creeping species with intricate flowers and a beautifully natural growth habit — perfect for humid orchid houses, terrariums and mounted collections.
