Bulbophyllum brevibracteatum

An unusual and beautifully detailed Bulbophyllum species, Bulbophyllum brevibracteatum has a naturally creeping, epiphytic growth habit, producing individual pseudobulbs along a travelling rhizome.

Like so many Bulbophyllums, the real beauty is in the flowers — intricate, slightly strange and full of character. The blooms are produced in clusters and are best appreciated close up, where their complex structure and markings can really be seen.

Its spreading growth makes this species particularly well suited to natural wood or cork mounts, allowing the rhizome and roots to travel freely rather than being confined to a pot.

Care

Light: Medium to bright filtered light. Protect from strong direct midday sun.

Temperature: Intermediate to warm growing. Around 16–28°C is a useful range, with slightly cooler nights.

Water: Water regularly during active growth. Allow plenty of air around the roots but avoid letting the plant remain completely dry for long periods.

Humidity & Airflow: Prefers high humidity with good, constant air movement. Around 70–90% humidity is ideal for mounted plants when airflow is strong.

Feeding: Feed lightly and regularly during active growth with a dilute balanced orchid fertiliser.

Mounting: Particularly suited to natural wood or cork. Give the rhizome room to creep and establish naturally across the mount.

🌿 A wonderfully unusual creeping Bulbophyllum with intricate flowers and a natural epiphytic habit — ideal for a humid orchid house or mounted collection.
