Biophytum sensitivum is one of nature’s most fascinating little plants. Often called the “Little Tree Plant” because of its miniature palm-like appearance, it forms delicate rosettes of finely divided leaves atop slender stems. Native to the tropical forests of Asia and parts of Africa, it thrives in warm, humid conditions where dappled light filters gently through the canopy.

What makes this species truly remarkable is its sensitive foliage. The leaves gently fold in response to touch, vibration and changing light levels before slowly reopening again. Although this movement is often compared to Mimosa pudica, the two are not closely related. Instead, they have independently evolved this remarkable behaviour, making Biophytum sensitivum one of the most captivating plants in the botanical world.

It prefers bright, indirect light, consistently moist but well-draining soil, and high humidity. Avoid allowing the compost to dry out completely, as this species appreciates stable conditions and rewards good care with steady growth.
