Aeschynanthus gracilis on natural wood mount

A beautiful trailing Aeschynanthus species, Aeschynanthus gracilis has a naturally loose, cascading habit that makes it particularly suited to hanging pots, baskets and naturalistic tropical displays.

The slender stems gradually trail and branch, carrying attractive green foliage and creating a full, flowing plant as it matures. When in flower, it produces the distinctive tubular blooms associated with Aeschynanthus, emerging amongst the trailing foliage and adding a splash of colour.

Naturally epiphytic, it enjoys warm, humid conditions with plenty of air around its roots — making it a wonderful companion plant for orchids and other tropical epiphytes.

Care

Light: Bright filtered light. Good light encourages stronger growth and flowering, but avoid harsh midday sun.

Temperature: Warm to intermediate growing. Around 16–27°C is a good general range. Protect from prolonged cold conditions.

Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the growing medium to begin drying slightly before watering again. It enjoys regular moisture but should never sit constantly wet.

Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%.

Airflow: Good gentle airflow is beneficial, particularly when grown under humid greenhouse or terrarium conditions.

Feeding: Feed lightly and regularly during active growth with a dilute balanced fertiliser.

Growing: Particularly attractive in a hanging pot or basket, allowing its stems to cascade naturally. An open, free-draining epiphytic mix works particularly well.

🌿 A graceful tropical epiphyte with cascading foliage and characterful tubular flowers — perfect for hanging amongst orchids in a warm, humid collection.
